Xarelto Litigation

The prescription medication Xarelto (also known Rivaroxaban) is an anticoagulant (blood thinner) intended to reduce the risk of clotting in conditions such as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Unfortunately, the use of Xarelto had been associated with numerous incidents of uncontrolled internal bleeding, hemorrhaging, stroke, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. If you or a loved one has been injured by taking this drug, it is important to speak with a New York Xarelto lawyer as soon as possible. You could be entitled to compensation for your injuries including reimbursement for medical costs, pain and suffering and loss of income.

Xarelto is a once daily medication that is manufactured by Bayer and marketed by Janssen Pharmaceutica, a division of Johnson and Johnson. What is unique about this drug is that as opposed to other blood thinners, they are no dietary restrictions or blood monitoring necessary when taking Xarelto. Unfortunately, most blood thinners can cause excessive bleeding. Should this occur with another type of blood thinner, such as Coumadin (also known as Warfarin), and antidote such as vitamin K can be given to stop the bleeding. With Xarelto, there is no known antidote for excessive bleeding. Because of this, Xarelto is considered to be more dangerous that other blood thinners. This inability to slow bleeding has been known to result in serious injury and death.

While all medications have some side effects, Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) has been associated with serious and fatal side effects including internal bleeding, hemorrhaging, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke and death. Unfortunately, there are inadequate warnings about these side effects on the label, so the consumer is not able to make an informed decision.

Although the drug was approved in November 2011, in 2012 there were 350 reports of adverse events related to Xarelto. Ironically, this drug was created to reduce the risk of pulmonary and venous thromboembolism. The largest problem with this drug has been the occurrence of thrombus and pulmonary embolism, the very thing that this drug was designed to prevent.
